Maker Faire, NYC, September 17

Another day, another demo. Eben and I will be demonstrating the Raspberry Pi at Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science next month, and Eben will be giving a presentation about the project. You can come along and play with an alpha board yourself – and we’d love to meet you and have a chat.

Tickets are $20 for adults, and less for students, kids and seniors (babies can come for free, but I have to admit that I’m yet to meet one who’s expressed an interest in doing anything other than chewing on a Raspberry Pi) if you buy online before September 8. Prices rise a little after that. Let us know if you’re coming. We’re really looking forward to it!

Have they lowered the price? the tickets i have have a $25 facevalue although i didn’t actually pay for them as digikey have been giving away pairs and single tickets on their twitter feed several times in the last two weeks. it might be worth following them in case they do it again.

@liz I’ll be there. which day will you be there? the saturday or the sunday?

liz

The tickets have a $25 face value, but they’re discounting them before the 8th.

We’ll be there on the Saturday.

yes just found the price list with those prices on it. ther eis another one on their site that says nothing about early bird discounts too.

i’ll see you on thee saturday then

Funny how the ticket is exactly as expensive as the Raspberry Pi A model. Really shows how much value you’re getting for this device.

I won’t be there (it’s in the US and I’m not) but have fun, those of you who are going! And let us know how cool the device is on here. :)

Will you guys have a booth or be doing a presentation? Either way, can’t wait!

liz

Eben’s going to be presenting. We *think* we have a booth, but we’ve had some difficulties getting hold of the Make guys (we’ve spent the last few days wrestling with aeroplane schedules, network connections, meetings…) – I can confirm for you tomorrow.

Hope we see some videos here.

liz

That’s a very good point, actually – I’ll be manning the stand all day so I won’t have a chance to take any video, and Eben’s going to be busy too. We’d love it if some of you could come and do a little casual filming…

YES we’ve been looking forward to the maker faire for months (along with the RPi !!), we will definitely find you!

We’re coming in a few days early for the open hardware summit, on the 15th.

Can’t wait!

Sadly, we can’t be there earlier because Eben’s talking in Antwerp on the Friday, which is a pain in the neck. Do come and introduce yourself – I will be the one in the raspberry-coloured frock with jet lag.

Avatar

Is this talk in Antwerpen (on Friday Sept 16, right?) a public one?

liz

Afraid not. You’d have to be signed up to the conference, and it’s a rather expensive one (corporate conferences often are). We’ll do our best to come back to continental Europe soon, though.

Hi,
I am from the UK and I will be exhibiting some of my Arduino stuff like http://www.thebox.myzen.co.uk/Hardware/Dice_Game.html at the Faire (why the e on the end?)
So please say hello, maybe we can meet up at the exhibitors thing on the Friday evening before the show.
I will also be at the OSH conference, on the Thursday.

liz

Hi Mike! Unfortunately, we’re not going to get into Newark until nearly midnight on the Friday (Eben’s presenting in Antwerp earlier in the day), so we’re not going to be able to make anything before the Saturday. It’d be good to say hi on the day, though – and I totally agree about that extraneous E!

Two 7-train stops from my place, how can I NOT go?

liz

Brilliant – do come and say hello.

Avatar

Since I’m only 27 train and subway stops away, how could I not go? Too bad the express 7 subway only runs on rush hours. I just asked for my complementary pass from Digikey.
Anyone know if this includes admission to the science center too?

Will you be giving any boards away for free, or can we buy one there? Looking forward to seeing them in real! :)

liz

The production boards won’t be ready until November, and we only have 50 alpha boards (most of those are now out with devs and partners who are porting their software to them), so no, I’m afraid we won’t be doing any giveaways or selling anything at Maker Faire. I guess I can always give you a business card, but that’s about the limit of the freebies on offer!

Avatar

you could get a few punnets of raspberries and give us one each

Avatar

that’s one raspberry each not one punnet of course. i wouldn’t want to bankrupt you

liz

One lucky visitor gets Twiglets. That’s the limit of the freebies, though!

Avatar

I’m kicking around attending, however I won’t be there until around noon Saturday because it’s a 7 hour drive from here in Pittsburgh, PA. What time is your presentation?

Avatar

i’m planning on going on the saturday, i’d like to go both days but the Great Irish Fair is that weekend too and the wife drags me to that every year (she is irish american), i’ll be there around 11am (before noon anyway) and have a couple of booths i definetly want to check out (Raspberry Pi, CyberCortex AV……) but any forum members that are going want to have a small meetup and go for a beer or two?

Avatar

Any particular reason you guys weren’t at Brighton maker faire ?

liz

We’ve only been ready to demo in the last couple of weeks, unfortunately. You can come and see us in Oxford at the Transfer Summit on Wednesday, though!

Avatar

It’s a shame you can not attend, a big hug from Argentina-Buenos Aires!!
