Logo competition results slightly postponed

We were hoping to have the logo competition results finalised today, but the trustees are still arguing about which one they like best. Who would have thought that six people could have such totally different aesthetics? The good news is that we are down to really insignificant detail now, along the lines of: “I don’t like the shape of the A on that one.” Check back tomorrow, by which time I hope a decision will have been reached. If it goes on any longer than that, we’re going to have to start depriving them of food and drink (a favourite tactic of medieval assize courts sick of waiting for juries to come to a decision) until they pick a winner.

Edit, the next evening: Still arguing. Please take this as a signifier of the very high quality of the entries rather than of the indecisiveness of the Raspberry Pi trustees!

Can’t wait to see which logo they decided upon.

*taps watch*

eicristian avatar

I hope they will pick a logo to match this magnificent little pc that is the Raspberry Pi :P

Yld avatar

You can ask us if you want to-O !

Matthew (Roz) Hall avatar

I’m sure people would be happy to change that ‘a’ to a different one :D

Looking forward to seeing what is decide upon…

gingerbeardman avatar

Anxious that most of mine don’t even have an ‘A’ in the logo :/

euxneks avatar

I suspect it’s more the text included with the logo. I don’t think I’ve seen a logo yet with an A in it except with the “Raspberry Pi” spelled out.

liz avatar

Exactly right. Fussy buggers, these trustees. ;)

Rob avatar

steady on! (:

USvER avatar

Is there wuld be some kind of catalogue? I want to see all!

jamesh avatar

All the information available is in the FAQ or on the Wiki. Should be enough there!

gingerbeardman avatar

I think he means he wants to see all logos that were submitted?

USvER avatar

yes. i want to see all logos!… some of them posted on forum but not all…

or maybe create some static html page with all logos that you liked most(like maybe 20)…

ukscone avatar

What colour smoke should we look for coming from the wren library?

guru avatar

@gingerbeardman Ha, same thought here :)
I’m taking comfort from ‘along the lines of…’ XD

WASD avatar

Try to pick one that looks fine without the full name. So it can be used as a small logo. I might want it as a sticker on mine :)

eicristian avatar

Good idea :)

stuporhero avatar

That or get the eventual winner to do another one so you have one small logo and one full logo!

chris avatar

you could just ask the people who made it to change it
although it would kinda nullify the contest…but if you were only going to pick those people’s designs anyway it might not matter

maybe have a “second round” of the contest where you tell people who’s logos you like to fix it the way you want it
or just have people vote on it

vfrico avatar

And why you don’t do a selection of the best logos and then the public do a poll? It would be a nice idea!

liz avatar

Well, unfortunately the public’s needs for the logo don’t necessarily tally well with the foundations – not least the need for something that’ll work well stamped 1cm by 1cm on casing. Some were really, really cute, but ultimately wouldn’t work for what we needed; similarly, some were really very beautiful but had too many small elements, or relied on too many colours… The community response to the competition was fantastic though, so I hope the fact that we’re choosing a logo from a pool of those submitted by the public is enough for you guys!

ETA – We did discuss a public vote, but as so many have pointed out, the demographic here on this website and on the forums is so very different from the demographic we expect to see wielding Raspberry Pis this time next year that it makes things a bit awkward. What appeals to open-source hackers is not necessarily going to be particularly attractive to your average schoolkid!

Micah Denn avatar

I’m an average school kid and an open-source hacker :P

Beautiful but way to many small elements is my logo for sure…………crap

will avatar

You’re no average schoolkid then.

James avatar

I did have an idea but I can’t draw even if my life depended on it.

Basically it was a Rasberry caricature with sun glasses lying down on a lawn chair catching some sun rays. But here is the good part, The lawn chair was the π symbol and the foot stool was “Pi”.

Leonardo avatar

Why don’t let web (people) have the last word, in a vote, between the better ones.

liz avatar

Sorry, but the decision on how to judge the contest was made a good long time ago, and it’s certainly not changing now!

guru avatar

Sounds like the cat-herding is going well :-)

ukscone avatar

Have you cut off their food and drink yet? maybe you should hermetically seal the room and start sucking out the oxygen. that’d definitely speed up the process

liz avatar

Be careful what you wish for. Dead trustees = no pi for you (or anyone else).

ukscone avatar

well maybe leave them enough that it’s like they are on top of ben nevis. not enough to kill them but would be a little uncomfortable.

actually I have a much better idea. tell them that if they take too long that they need to be fed you’ll use the menu from “i’m a celebrity get me out of here”

Dave avatar

Put them in a room with no table and chairs, make them stand up and then see how long it takes them to make a decision!

mdafbmm avatar

In order to relieve the tension for those people waiting anxiously to see how they have done (I am one of those checking the website a little over frequently), maybe the “finalists” for lack of a better term, could be posted in a gallery somewhere. It’d be nice to have something to look at and will let some people relax.

chris avatar

+1 show what you guys are bickering over

chris avatar

Will the logo be free to use for personal use?
Can I stamp/etch/mold/engrave/mill/print the logo on any rPi based product I make for my own geekness, enjoyment and self satisfaction?

jacklang avatar

The logo will be the trademark of the Rasapberry Pi Foundation, but I imagine there will be some dort of “Raspberry Pi Inside” scheme

Joseph Cortez avatar

I see a good logo on the top of this page if you cannot decide. Just add some filters in photoshop. I already have and the results are not bad. But I do wonder who is going to win.

traffikante avatar

Christmas soon… :(:

ukscone avatar

80 days, 14 hours, 3 minutes and 40 seconds

traffikante avatar

thank you still have time! )

traffikante avatar

i am zen

guru avatar

Time since the comp ended: 5 days, 15 hours, 56 minutes, 10 seconds.

Getting the right logo that the foundation are all agreed on seems much more important than appeasing us lot :-)

guru avatar

That should be 4 days shouldn’t it? :S
Damn head cold.

ukscone avatar

what do you mean? nothing is more important than appeasing us :)

the peasants are revolting :)

jamesh avatar

True!

Matthew (Roz) Hall avatar

Let’s all complicate things by sending in even more logo ideas… :)

Mr_Navigator avatar

lol

JohnA avatar

Can we still get a gallery of the submissions where we can vote. I know those tally’s won’t matter in the final decision of what is used, but it will be nice for the amateurs like me to get feedback on our ideas. Just for fun.

JohnA avatar

I will gladly change the ‘A’ to whatever font is desired so the other 4 judges will finally pick my submission. ;)

Amusicsite avatar

I think them making a decision tonight is totally pie in the sky talk! LOL

Mr_Navigator avatar

The trouble is guys (and gals), whoever (goes away presses F5) wins with whatever iconic design will probably be a contentious issue anyway, so (goes away presses F5 again) shouldn’t all the people who didn’t do so well concentrate on something more important like (goes away presses F5 yet again) getting a list together of the reasons why the chosen one shouldn’t be the chosen one (tic)

Whoop avatar

whoever wins with whatever iconic design will probably be a contentious issue…

That’s nothing to what my wife calls me.

Whoop avatar

Feed ’em flapjacks Liz

eicristian avatar

Hold your horses people :D don’t rush things sooner or latter the logo will be made public…

Melvin Byrd avatar

How bout a gallery of those not chosen to be amoung the finalist? At least that way, if I see my entry in the “Nice, but not what we’re looking for” pile, I can go away satisfied that I participated and then just wait to see what did win.

I’m sure the other potientials would want the same thing… In the words of the great Oracle… “Sorry Kid, you’ve got the gift but maybe in your next lifetime”

euxneks avatar

I would hazard a guess it’s not longer “slightly” postponed now is it.. ?
