Blast off game
Here’s another little snippet of video from Mike Cook. This game is one of the projects you’ll be able to make with Raspberry Pi for Dummies (click the link to learn more), by Mike (hardware) and Sean McManus (everything else).
Watching this reminds me that I had a crush on Virgil Tracy when I was about six, despite the fact that he was made of balsa wood.

Just told my wife and she said that being made of balsa wood was good practice for real life husbands.

Your comment about Virgil Tracy brought a grin to my face. When I was a little kid I also had a crush on him (it).
BTW, thanks to you and the entire community for all the great work on the Pi. I’m a software engineer and work with many types of processors and I still grimace when I have to spend >$50 to get an eval board for some processor knowing there’s a fully-featured PC out there for $35.

Very nice, but I worry there may be some copyright issues with the soundtrack.

Ever since I was a young boy,
I’ve played the silver ball.
From Soho down to Brighton,
I must have played them all.
But I ain’t seen nothing like him
in any amusement hall.
That deaf, dumb, and blind kid
sure plays a mean pin ball!
He stands like a statue,
becomes part of the machine.
Feeling all the bumpers,
always playing clean.
He plays by intuition,
the digit counters fall.
That deaf dumb and blind kid
sure plays a mean pin ball!
He’s a pin ball wizard
There’s got to be a twist.
A pin ball wizard’s
got such a supple wrist.
How do you think he does it?
I don’t know!
What makes him so good?’
He ain’t got no distractions,
can’t hear those buzzers and bells.
Don’t see no lights a-flashin’,
plays by sense of smell.
Always has a replay,
never tilts at all.
That deaf dumb and blind kid
sure plays a mean pin ball.
I thought I was
the Bally table king,
but I just handed
my pin ball crown to him.
Even on my favorite table,
he can beat my best.
His disciples lead him in
and he just does the rest.
He’s got crazy flipper fingers, never seen him fall.
That deaf dumb and blind kid
sure plays a mean pin ball!!!

Nice poem! It sorta reminds me of a song I once heard, long ago…

Is it just me, or is the shaking thumbs up at the end a nod to the jittering Supermarionation puppets?? Happy memories…

It always made me giggle whenever they did a close-up shot of something the ‘puppet’ was doing with their hands, and it’d suddenly cut to a shot of a real person’s hand :-)

A mere Bagatelle … but beatiful

Aqua Marina, a girl called Marina – we still talked about her in our late twenties over lunch in the GEC canteen…. ( sorry I know I’m getting off-topic – Stingray not Thunderbirds ;-) )

Stingray…Stingray! (Boo doo-doo bum doo bum.) Stingray…etc. etc.
