Oh good!

Nolan avatar

Just registered. I was about to start pulling my hair out since I couldn’t figure out what was wrong on my end when I couldn’t register before.

liz avatar

Brilliant – and apologies! We’d have had it done sooner, but unfortunately it didn’t come to my attention for a day or so, and then it turned out to be really, horribly complicated. I really need to learn some PHP.

Have just seen this, & thought I would prove fix by registering, rather than just lurking!

liz avatar

I heartily approve! Welcome aboard.

Andrew Scheller avatar

Thanks for fixing it. I’m now signed up :)
Whereabouts in Cambridge are you based?

liz avatar

We’ve got an office at the William Gates Building in the West Cambridge bit of the university, but nobody’s working from there yet – we’re all working from home offices for the moment. That office will have real live people in it once we start selling the hardware and employing someone.

Sander avatar

The William Gates Building? Named after *the* William Gates (aka Bill Gates)? Funny the raspi developed in that building is not going the run Windows … ;-)

Bill avatar

Actually, it might. Windows 8 will run on ARM architectures. We will just have to see. The trick of course will be to convince people to pay 10 times more for the OS then they paid for the computer.

jamesh avatar

Correct. A building at Cambridge University funded by That Bill Gates.

Still doubt Windows 8 will run on the Pi though….Arm11 at 700Mhz just doesn’t have enough oomph.

Smajda avatar

I believe that in the raspberry pi should have the same ARM CPU that is in some tablets, and tablets should run (maybe lower-priced-tablet with low performance) Windows 8, or not?
First thing is run it – optimization and tweaking W8 is next thing

I am right, right? :)

jamesh avatar

Cannot reply directly to Smajda, as reached limit of 5 levels of comments.

But there are few to no tablets running Windows, and Windows 8 won’t run on the Pi due to memory and processor consraints. This has been covered in the forum quite extensively.

The demo version on Win8 shown by MS was on a very powerful Arm device indeed.

Woohoo! Signed up and waiting patiently for the release! :)

Andrea avatar

I just registered too, I can’t wait to have my hands on one Raspi! You guys definitely rock!

david lagle avatar

will this mailing list supply us info when you release your product, sounds brilliant i am looking foward to this as i would like to use it as an htpc.

liz avatar

It will.

Registring to the mailing list still doesn’t seem to work for me. Sorry.

jamesh avatar

Hi Herman,

Sorry you are having problems – I’ve checked the list and others seem to be registering OK. Can you try again – and ensure that any confirmation email isn’t being dumped to a spam folder.

Thanks.

James

Hello
Do you have a direct link or a mobile version of your site? Nothing is showing on any of my tablet/phone browsers to sign up for the mailing list.
I really look forward to ordering several of these!
Thanks!

Hi Liz, sorry to come bearing bad news when I know you’re busy. I got an email from the forums when someone added a comment. My MUA complains of a duplicate MIME-Version header, and sure enough:

X-Mailer: PHPMailer 5.1 (phpmailer.sourceforge.net)
MIME-Version: 1.0
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/HTML; charset=”UTF-8″
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

I can easily work around it but I thought you’d like to know. Google suggests some MTAs complain and reject such emails, e.g. when Mailman used to create dupes in the past causing grief. I did find http://wordpress.org/support/topic/problem-with-notification-emails-sent-by-wordpress and http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/12728 but no obvious answer.

Mail registration still seems to have a problem. I tried and it said it couldn’t find what I was looking for.

liz avatar

It’s because of the + symbol in your email address. If you remove it, there shouldn’t be a problem.

Mark Fraser avatar

I registered for the mailing list on the 10th September and have received a confirmation email, but have had no other messages from the mailing list.

jamesh avatar

We only use the mailing list for important announcements to prevent accusations of spamming. You can check out the home page and the forum if you want other less major information.

bill avatar

The Mailing Bug still wont let me register to your site 15th Dec 2011

Bob Huffman avatar

I can’t sign up for the email list either on 8 February.
