The Raspberry Pi Product Information Portal

The Raspberry Pi Product Information Portal (PIP) is a web-based resource that provides industrial users of Raspberry Pi with access to a wide range of technical documentation, white papers, and compliance information. The portal is designed to help industrial users to select the right products for their needs, to design and develop their Raspberry Pi-based applications, and to troubleshoot any problems they might encounter.

Users can subscribe to individual products in order to get a notification whenever we add a new file relating to that particular product. There’s also the option to subscribe just to Product Change Notifications for all products.

White papers and app notes provide technical information on specific Raspberry Pi topics. Examples include how to use Raspberry Pi in industrial automation applications, and how to design a Raspberry Pi-based embedded system.

The portal also includes a search function that helps users to find the documentation they need quickly.

Powered By Raspberry Pi

The Powered by Raspberry Pi logo is a mark of quality that shows that a product uses Raspberry Pi technology. It is a way for companies to promote their products and services to potential customers who are looking for high-quality, innovative products.

If your company uses Raspberry Pi in your products or services, you can apply to use the Powered by Raspberry Pi logo. If your application is successful, we will grant a licence to use the “Powered by Raspberry Pi” logo on your products, packaging, and marketing materials. You will also be able to list your products in our Powered by Raspberry Pi product catalogue.

Hi there!
I love RPi, and was having a discussion yesterday at work on RPi vs. PLC for industrial applications with continuous operation for months at a time. How has RPi been improved to handle these long duration deployments? Often, I find myself having to eventually reset the system… but this is hard for applications such as data sensor buoys at sea. Any tips? Thank you!

It is a computer dude. You do whatever you want. If you have to reset something you are doing something wrong.

Well, either you’re doing something wrong, or some package you depend on is doing something wrong, or some random ionising radiation hit your RAM chip, or there was a power brown-out because your sensor buoys got whacked hard, or any number of other issues. In fact, designing your system to handle crashes and gracefully recover from them isn’t just good practice, it’s essential if you want a system that is highly reliable in the long term.

So, to more helpfully answer Phil’s question, Raspberry Pi OS has gained a number of useful features over the years to help with this. You can mount the filesystem read-only, to avoid write wear on your SD card. If you choose a Pi with plenty of RAM then the spare memory will be used to cache filesystem contents, which helps avoid read fatigue on the flash memory. Enabling the “watchdog” timer can detect certain sorts of crash or stall and cause a reboot. The ‘lite’ images seem to be lighter than they used to be, which cuts down the number of services that can crash on you.

You can have a simple independent service that can detect a condition that requires a reset and triggers it or you can have a scheduled periodic reset triggered regardless.
Space applications are the case where an autonomous recovery must be possible if comma fails.

To prevent resets, a stable power supply is crucial. Make sure you have more than enough current capacity. Also, consider an uninterruptible power supply on your A.C.
