Get started with MicroPython on Raspberry Pi Pico with our latest book

We launched the first edition of Gareth Halfacree and Ben Everard’s Get started with MicroPython on Raspberry Pi Pico just over three years ago. Today, we’re excited to announce the second edition, available now. It’s got many updates, including two chapters on Pico W. In those new chapters, you’ll find both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) projects.

You can order Get started with MicroPython on Raspberry Pi Pico, 2nd Edition now from the Raspberry Pi Press Store. It will be available shortly from other retailers. All you need is a Raspberry Pi Pico or Pico W, a collection of electronic components, and the desire to make something cool!

This second edition features the same updated design we unveiled with The official Raspberry Pi Beginner’s Guide, 5th Edition. Not only that, it features numerous updates to improve your experience with the projects in the book. Fully updated for Raspberry Pi Pico W and the latest version of MicroPython, this book shows you how to:

  • Work with various electronic components
  • Create your own programmable electronic contraptions
  • Turn Raspberry Pi Pico W into a network-connected node for the Internet of Things
  • Link your Pico W to your smartphone, tablet, or another Pico W with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

When will the digital edition of these books be available?

Hi Venkat, the digital versions are now available from ebook channels such as Kindle and Apple Books, and should be available in certain library ebook applications.

The kindle ebook edition on American Amazon seems to be available today. The hardcopy paperback says August 6th

Got a chance to read a pdf of the book last week. The updates for wifi and ble are great and helped me get my head around some ble misunderstandings that had been causing me problems for months

Is there somewhere where I can buy a PDF version of the book?

Hi Richard, we’re looking into ways that we could offer DRM-free bundles that include ePub and PDF versions of our books. We don’t have a solution for that yet but hope to announce something soon.

Presumable the pdf version will appear in the piOS bookshelf at some point? The 1st edition is there if needed.

Hi Jeff, when we come out with a 3rd edition, the plan is to make the 2nd edition available for free download, which would include the Bookshelf application. We always include the current edition of The Official Raspberry Pi Beginner’s Guide in the Bookshelf application, though. When we do make PDF/ePub bundles available for sale, we plan to make the pricing quite reasonable.

Looks interesting! Is there anything in here about running a small web server to allow you to control projects from a browser? Even a chapter list would be great. I’m also interested in a PDF copy – physical books are harder to reference, and I’m not interested in DRM-packed ebook formats that need specific readers to function.

Maybe this video from Explaining Computers is useful for you, it’s about controlling a small robot via wifi with a small web server:

Will this also discuss Pico 2?
